In the Award Ceremony of ACM / ICPC Competition, the Qualifying Round for Asia area, hosted in Phuket, Thailand, all 3 teams of FPT University were the list of Top 25 best teams honored in the solemnity. They were FU Toad, Blue Flame and Jose Mourinho.
Not only FPT University managed to achieve such high position, four other teams, which were from HoChiMinh University of Natural Sciences , Hanoi University of Technology, University of Technology (Hanoi National University) and the Foreign Trade University, also were one of 25 best teams at the competition.
Consequently, in this tournament, with its seven high-ranking teams, Vietnam became the delegation that had the largest number of teams with high ranking, followed by China with five teams, four teams of Taiwan, Singapore with three teams, three teams from Thailand. South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, each country had a team. Best team of Vietnam, which stood at the position of No. 3, came from HoChiMinh University of Natural Sciences.
Right after the ceremony, a team member of Thailand, the host of the Competition, was very surprised to know that FPT University was established only three years ago. Three teams from FU hardly had any opportunity to train, yet they had shown their impressive skills as well as potential talents comparing to Universities with years of experience. With this remarkable achievement, FPT University had become a real bright spot in the Competition.
In the Qualifying round of ACM / ICPC Contest for Programming hosted in Phuket Thailand, there are 60 teams participated: Vietnam with 11 teams, Thailand with 28 teams and 21 teams from other countries such as Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan.
The delegations, which attended Qualifying Round in Phuket Thailand, were considered the strongest teams in the area. Most of them came from Universities which had already attended the Final Round many times before.
The Final round of ACM / ICPC is a global event which will be held from 1st to 6th February, 2010 in Harbin, China.
Before the contest in Phuket, Thailand occurred, the Qualifying Round for Asia area also took place in many other cities: Jakarta, Indonesia on October 21st and Manila, Philippines on October 23rd 2009. Next year, University of Technology (Hanoi National University) will be one of the hosts for Qualifying Round.
