From April 8th to April 14th, the 21st National Mathematics Olympics for University Students took place jubilantly in Danang. Participating in this grand contest, FPT University maintained their impressive performance with 1 First Prize, 4 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes and 2 Consolation Prizes. This is a welldeserved result for the efforts of the students and teachers of FPT University.
The closing and awarding ceremony of the 21st National Mathematics Olympics took place in Danang in the joyof FPT University’s students and teachers.
The 21st National Mathematics Olympics attracted nearly 900 students from 87 universities, academies and colleges from around the nation, as well as lecturers and experts in mathematics.
Here, students compete in 2 subjects: Algebra and Calculus. Especially, in the context of this year’s contest, many conferences discussing the refreshing of mathematics syllabus in technical universities, as well as talks between students and firstclass mathematics professors in Vietnam were held.
Participating in the contest for the 5th time, FPT University still maintainstheir great performance with 9 out of 10 participating students getting prizes, among whom Le Phuc Lu got thefirst prize in Algebra.
Taking part in the contest for the 5th time, the team from FPT University consists of 10 students who compete in both Algebra and Calculus. With strongpassion for mathematics determinations to keep up the performance from the previous years, the team of FPT University won 9 prizes, consisting of 1 First Prize, 4 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes and 2 Consolation Prizes.
Being the highest hope of FPT University in this year National Mathematics Olympics, Le Phuc Lu, a student majoring in IT expressed great joys in winning the First prize in Algebra: “Winning the first prize brings me great happiness– it was also the goal that I set for myself before the contest. The first prize in Algebra makesme feel greatly honored and has completed my collection of prizes in the National Mathematics Olympics contests during the recent years as a member of team FPT University.”
In 2013 National Mathematics Olympics Algebra saw the most notable prizes from FPT students.

Sharing his opinion about the questions, Phuc Lu said: “The questions in Algebra this year were not too difficult; however it required knowledge in many branches like elementary algebra, linear algebra, calculus, arithmetic, combinatorial mathematics; thus in order to finish the contest one needs to have wide knowledge”.
Recalling the memorable experiences in this year’s National Mathematics Olympics, Phuc Lu said: “This is the 3rd time I have participated in the National Mathematics Olympics and it will also be the final one. In 2011 I registered as a free contender and got 2nd prizes in both Algebra and Calculus. In 2012 I participated in Calculus contest and won 1st prize with another FPT student whose name was Mai Xuan Viet. Reaching the end of the road that I have been walking since my high school years, I feel the National Mathematics Olympics have brought me many great things. The time I have spent on traveling, enjoying myself during free time, nervously waiting for the results as well as the joy I had when accepting the prizes will be the most memorable memories of my life.”
Head of the Mathematics department at FPT University, Mr. Dinh Thanh Trung said that he was very pleased with the results of the team.
Being the teacher looking after FPT University team since its formation, training as well as leading the team during the contest, Mr. Dinh Thanh Trung, head of the Mathematics department at FPT University said: “I am pleased with the results of this year. In addition to the team winning high prizes and our “great hope” Le Phuc Lu continued to have thefirst prize, the members of the team had many chances to take part in the activities of the organizers as well as exchanging with friendly teams from other universities and exploring the beautyof Danang, a tourist attaction city.”
After the awarding ceremony held on April 13th in Danang, Le Phuc Lu, who won the First prize in Algebra at the 2013 National Mathematics Olympics, reminded his fellow students: “Next year’s Olympics will be held in Quang Ngai. I hope that the future generations of FPT University will try their best to win many more prizes for FPT University, contributing to the Mathematics department in particular and the whole University in general.
