On May 21st, FPT University students had an opportunity to participate in a meeting about “Japanese Culture – Country – People” with Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung – Special Goodwill Ambassador of Vietnam at Hyugo province (Japan) and Chairman of the Scientific Council of Saigon Hi-tech Park (Ho Chi Minh City). With over 40 years experience of  living in Japan, Dr. Dung had given FPT students interesting and helpful talks.

At the meeting, there were many questions discussed around earthquakes, Tsunami, nuclear power hazards and other kinds of disasters that human have suffered over the years. All questions were answered and discussed at length; between Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung and FPT University students. Also included in the gathering was, moving footages that illustrated the largest earthquake in Japanese history, the explosion in the nuclear power plant at Fukushima province and pictures of Japanese confronting the suffering and  the loss, this was all graphically displayed on video.

In all terrible situations, these people have always stood together, calmly solving the problems, involving themselves in public activities in order to overcome the consequences of the disaster. They were even willing to plunge headlong into danger for the  common good and to prevent thefts as well as riots. People from all over the world were in sympathy with Japan and sent tents for the homeless, as well as many other supports. We saw the proof of  the support shown to Japan on screen, this land of cherry blossom.  The spirit to cope with natural calamity and the self-consciousness of Japanese are meaningful and valuable lessons for Vietnamese in general and FPT University students in particularly.

The program expresses the care and deep feeling shown by FPT University staff and students to Japan and its people.

The meeting also afforded students a chance to listen to Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung share about his dreams  “Vietnam Dream – Leading to the Top” which contributes a sustainable development for Vietnam based on modern science and technology; he talked about the time when representative of ThaiHaBooks introduced a book named “Cherry Blossoms are still Blooming” and Dr. also supports the “Cherry Blossoms are still Blooming” fund which helps victims of the earthquake, which happened on March 11th  in the North East region of the East Pacific, this year. Besides, students from “Sadou” club (Sadou - the Japanese tea ceremony, also called the Way of Tea) of FPT University had an opportunity to introduce the tea ceremony of Japan as well as of Vietnam.

During the meeting with Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung, students from FPT University celebrated together the “Making cherry blossoms in Origami” contest to show their support for the strong will of the Japanese people which was demonstrated, in order to cope with the recent earthquake and Tsunami. These are beautiful pictures of care, empathy and sharing with Japan and its people which came from both staff and students of FPT University.
